European Tourism Sustainability Monitoring 2030

The ETSM 2030 Project is an innovative european initiative
designed to foster sustainability within small and medium-sized tourism enterprises (SMTEs). The project focuses on helping businesses integrate sustainability practices, promoting environmental responsibility, and supporting local communities. By enhancing awareness and offering tailored training and coaching, the project empowers tourism businesses to become more eco-conscious and socially responsible.
ETSM 2030 works with SMTEs in six European countries—Austria, Germany, Italy, Poland, Romania, and Slovenia—facilitating their journey towards sustainable innovation. These enterprises are encouraged to apply for recognized sustainability certifications, such as the EU Ecolabel and EMAS (Eco-Management and Audit Scheme), ensuring that their practices meet high environmental and social standards.
One of the key components of the project is the Sustainability Innovation Projects (SIPs), where participating businesses collaborate across borders to develop innovative solutions. These projects focus on tangible actions, such as improving energy efficiency, reducing waste, and creating sustainable transportation systems. Each SIP must address one or more aspects of sustainability—environmental, economic, or social—and offer measurable results.
Throughout the project, the SMTEs receive coaching to identify areas for improvement, integrate sustainability practices into their operations, and use monitoring tools to track progress. The collaborative nature of the initiative promotes cross-border learning, allowing businesses to share best practices and drive collective progress in sustainability.
The ETSM 2030 Project is designed to not only enhance the sustainability of participating businesses but also to create a lasting impact on the broader tourism industry. By focusing on practical and innovative solutions, the project encourages responsible tourism that respects the environment, supports local communities, and contributes to a more sustainable future.
